Osteopathy
An osteopath will treat many conditions, not just back pain.
Osteopathy is an established system of healthcare underpinned by a specific philosophy and principles. Osteopaths focus on the health and wellbeing of the individual as a whole, rather than limiting themselves to just the symptoms.
Osteopathy recognises that the structure of your body, the muscles, ligaments, joints and other soft tissue influence how well you and everything that is you function. Through careful examination and subsequent diagnosis they endeavour to work with you and your body’s natural capacity for wellbeing with the aim of opening and maintaining the pathways to good health.
Osteopaths work with their hands and using a developed sense of touch they investigate areas of tension and loss of joint mobility to determine the most appropriate treatment for you.
Using a variety of treatment approaches including joint manipulation, soft tissue stretching and massages techniques they aim to improve joint mobility and reduce muscle tension which will improve the quality of the blood and nerve supply to help natural healing.
Osteopaths will identify the cause of the current pain and treat that in addition to the pain itself in order to minimise any re-occurrence. They recognise that without removing the cause it is only a matter of time before the symptoms return.
Osteopaths treat people of all ages from the new born to the elderly, they treat people at all stages of their lives, through pregnancy, during illness or long term disabilities if appropriate. They are also there for the active whether you’re an occasional walker or an elite sports person.
